I think its both a bride and a photographers worse fear...

Rain on a wedding day. Rain always means plan B, and plan B is never the most ideal. We put the majority of our planning into plan A and hope for the best, so plan B is usually a scramble to figure everything out. When photographing at a new wedding venue, I like to visit it before the actual wedding day so I can get a lay of the land and pre-pick out some locations for photos. I went out to The Shipyards, the week before Maya and Noah's wedding and met them there to look around the venue. We were keeping our fingers crossed that we'd be able to go outside and do photos, but worse case scenario, the venue was so large with beautiful, tall windows we could make photos work inside... except maybe bridal party photos. 

The day of the wedding, sure enough, the rain couldn't hold off. After we finished the photos of Maya and Noah getting ready and shot their first look it was time for immediate family and bridal party pre-formal portraits. The rain hadn't let up so, we were forced to do those inside. All things considered, they turned out amazing! It was a unique background and we were able to squeeze in even the largest group in a tight space!

The game plan was to then do a couple bridal party photos outside, and lucky for us, the rain stopped just before we finished with the pre-formal portraits. We hustled outside to a nearby field and started bridal party photos. I had an awesome idea for another bridal party photo (more on that later), and as we started to walk to that location, the rain was slowly starting to pick up. Maya and I made the call that it would be best to get through the ceremony with everyones hair and make up still intact and if the rain didn't clear up later we'd make a fast trip for another outdoor photo. 

The ceremony setting was beautiful and full of hanging greenery, breathtaking natural light and, well... masks. But Maya and Noah said I do, sealed it with a kiss and from there out it was smooth sailing!

From there we started more family photos and went straight into portraits of Maya and Noah inside the venue. The ceremony area had to be flipped for the reception, so we had to work quickly! Afterwards, the rain hadn't quite let up yet, but now that the most important part of the day was out of the way we ran out to the docks and squeezed in a couple more bridal party photos before running back inside for touch ups before the grand entrance to the reception. 

To cap off the day, the sun decided it was going to pop up and create the most beautiful sunset as a backdrop for the reception which meant it was time to execute my big idea from earlier. The bridal party was off dancing, drinking and having fun so I grabbed Maya and Noah and said, "hey let's go grab a sunset picture!" 

We took a nice cool walk over to a nearby platform that overlooked the water and had a beautiful sky background and created some absolutely photography magic! The pictures turned out incredible. Just looking at the RAW files, I knew these would be something special!

For the final shot of the night, we got a photo of Maya handing off her maid of honor, who is getting married soon too! After that, my time photographing Maya and Noah's day came to an end. So we said our goodbyes and I packed my bag excited to see how all the photos looked on my computer. Below you'll see some of my favorites from Maya and Noah's wedding day!
