I get asked all the time if I know of any good locations for engagement photos, and of course I have my go to list! So, I thought I’d share my favorite locations for engagement photos to help out anyone who may be struggling to come up with location ideas!
Peninsula
Peninsula is one of my favorite go to spots because of the convenience and variety it offers! It’s a sweet little town in between Akron and Cleveland which makes it a great central meeting location for anyone! It also lies right on the Cuyahoga River, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the Cuyahoga Railroad! The transition from outdoorsy to local small town makes for great vibes no matter what the season and the old locks and bridges make for great photo ops!
Nelsons Ledges
I’ve only been here once, but if you’re into hiking and adventure, then Nelson’s Ledges is the place for you! It is absolutely massive which makes for great exploring. On top of that it’s extremely scenic and features lots of rock faces, cliffs, and even a waterfall!
Everett Road Bridge
Also located in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the Everett Road Covered Bridge. The bridge is a hiking/walking/horse trail now, but it makes for great photos in case the weather isn’t so great but you want outdoor photos! There’s an open field, stream, and even an overlook area that all make for some pretty incredible photos!
Edgewater Park
Probably the most popular area on this list, but for good reason! Edgewater Park is a Cleveland gem! A large park, lakefront trails, skyline view of the city, a beach, and that beautiful large willow tree make it a must for Cleveland engagement photos. Pair it up with golden hour and sunset and your photos will look straight out of a movie!
The Flats
If outdoorsy isn’t your thing, the Flats are a great option! The East side of the Flats is more modern with plenty of great views of the water while the West side is more industrial and features old bridges, buildings and gems like the Jack Knife Bridge!
Brecksville Reservation
Another great hiking and outdoor area! The Brecksville Reservation is HUGE and makes for lots of photo opportunities within a short drive of each other. You can find bridges, amazing views, a stream, and more if you know where to look! ;)
Ohio City
Ohio City is another great city location if you’re looking for fun art and more of a NYC borough look. Think of it like Cleveland’s version of Brooklyn! There are tons of cool murals painted all across Ohio City, but you can also find old brick and industrial buildings off of West 25th street. This is typically a high traffic area though, so depending on the time of year you may have issues with lots of people on the streets and finding parking!
Blue Hen Falls
Another Northeast Ohio gem not far from Peninsula is Blue Hen Falls! Currently at the time of writing this, it’s a bit of a hike from the nearest parking lot, but if you can get dropped off there you’ll minimize the hiking distance! After a short hike from the trail head, you’ll come across one of the best waterfalls between Cleveland and Akron (aside from Brandywine Falls). The coolest part about Blue Hen Falls is that it’s pretty easy to hike down to the base of the waterfall for photos! Brandywine Falls… not such an easy hike down.
Mill Creek Park
If you’re closer to Youngstown, Mill Creek Park is a great location! Another huge park full of fields, trails, rivers, waterfalls and it’s signature bridge. There’s lots here within a short drive of each other, or a longer hike if that’s more your speed. There’s also a nearby garden that doesn’t charge for photo sessions that’s a popular spot for wedding photos and engagement photos alike!
Downtown Kent
Another favorite spot of mine is downtown Kent! There’s so much variety in Kent, I could shoot sessions there all day! Old industrial buildings on the Northside of North Water Street, a cool mixture of old buildings and modern shopping as you head South from there, John Brown Tannery Park, and the university make it a prime spot for getting lots of variety in a single location!
